About Us

OUR PURPOSE

Every year thousands of abused and/or neglected children in the District of Columbia are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another with no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults. “Community members in DC wanted better futures for these children; that’s when the movement on behalf of children in the District of Columbia began."

CASA for Children of DC was established in 2002 to make sure that children experiencing abuse and neglect in our nation's capital can count on caring adults in our community to lead them to safety, restore hope, and facilitate healing.

Donate today and restore hope to abused and neglected children in foster care!

THE CHILDREN’S MOVEMENT

THROUGH COMMUNITY ADVOCACY, CHILDREN BECOME SAFE, HOPE IS RESTORED, AND HEALING BEGINS.

Quality Representation of Children
- CASA volunteers frequently have more time to devote to a case than professionals involved, and therefore can provide the court with more in-depth information.

Quality Decision-Making by the Court - A CASA volunteer, social worker, staff member, and attorney engage in the development of joint case discussion. By considering a child’s situation from a range of different perspectives, carefully considered recommendations can be made that positively affect decisions of the court.

Community Awareness and Involvement
- By engaging citizens, the community accepts ownership of the challenges associated with child abuse and neglect; citizens actively work at finding solutions, children are given a voice in their destiny and prevention measures are identified.
